A movie that had brilliantly engaged audiences with an antagonist through its show time was the 2014 film Nightcrawler, starring Jake Gyllenhaal who is a desperate and hardworking man who would to go to any lengths to do well in his job that he is working on which in this case is providing footage mainly scenes of crime to news channels. ⠀
⠀
Louis (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) is the most flawed and smartest guy in his world. He can't take "No" for an answer & uses his devilish charm & psychopathic resourcefulness to achieve his goals regardless of means. There are dialogues which indicates his selfish and narrow minded attitude like "What if my problem wasn't that I don't understand people, but that I don't like them?". He is completely unabashed and remorseless. He never questions his motives. That’s what makes his character so loathsome.⠀
⠀
In the process we see the dirty world of sensationalism in news taking advantage of a character like Louis who can be easily manipulated which results in him forming his own concept of morality in such a high demanding job. This film just blowed my mind by its sheer naturalism of subject & how easily a concept can be conveyed to masses by a film maker with the help of an imperfect character as it's protagonist. It shows how a person can be dragged into this cruel world for no fault of theirs just trying to make a name for themselves but in the main process taking decisions that are absolutely against the morality of the human nature. This ultimately tells us how heartless and pathetic our society has become today. ⠀
⠀
This was the movie after "Taxi Driver" which made me think how brilliantly human emotion and frustration can be portrayed in movies with the help of mirrors which acts as a tool that reflects the personality of a person to us very effectively. The movie's realistic and grippy take on how a person forgets whole his moral codes for greed and to become successful is what had fascinated me the most. This is hands down one of the best performance of Gyllenhaal portraying the antagonist of the movie. I would surely recommend this movie to any friend of mine as this movie deserves a watch.. ⠀
